Originally from Asia, cymbals are some of the oldest instruments within the percussion family.

Mainly used for religious rituals in the ancient times, they eventually evolved to accompany dance performances. They were eventually introduced into Europe in the Middle Ages by the Saracens, and re-introduced much later during the Turkish Wars, with Turkey remaining one of the excellence in cymbals manufacturing.

Not long after that, cymbals began to be scored in opera orchestras, and they finally became part of the drum kit in the beginning of the last century.
