(b. 1939)
Barbara Kolb has created a distinctive contemporary form of Impressionism, turbulent yet sensual. She has composed a number of works in which performers "confront their own images on tape". Her electronic work from her residency at IRCAM resulted in Millefoglie, which has been performed in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, and the U.S. Poetic or visual images often inspire her pieces, as in her orchestral work Grisaille (1978-79), named for the painting technique.
