Born in 1963, Jeff Beal grew up in Hayward California and learned the trumpet from an early age. After writing his first major composition for the Oakland Youth Symphony Orchestra, the chief conductor Kent Nagano asked Beal to combine his love of improvised jazz with that of classical and orchestral composition which defined Beal’s musical style. He then continued his studies at the Eastman School of Music in New York. Jeff Beal has been nominated for fifteen Emmy Awards succeeded in four. Some of his best known scores are for Pollock in 2000, Blackfish in 2013, The Company in 2007 and House of Cards in 2014. He is also a prolific recording artist as artist and composer with label such as Mercury and Island. Jeff Beal’s compositions have been championed by the virtuoso clarinettist Eddie Daniels along with the St Louis and Munich Symphony orchestras.
