(b. 1973)
Born in 1973, Lera Auerbach has become internationally recognised as a composer, pianist, conductor, poet and visual artist. Her kaleidoscopic musical language is sometimes reminiscent of Shostakovich as experimental, colourful and full of emotion. Auerbach's successes include the ECHO award-winning ballet music The Little Mermaid, which she wrote for the choreographer John Neumeier and the orchestral work Icarus. She has been the winner of the Hindemith Prize and the Paul and Daisy Soros Scholarship and was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2007 and addition to a Cultural Leader in 2014. Lera Auerbach was the AHF artist in focus for 2024. She is the composer-in-Residence at the Festival Muséiques de Basel, the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa in Japan, the Dresdner Staatskapelle and the Semperoper, among others.
