Levon Atovmyan (1901–1973) was a Russian composer and arranger best known for his close relationships with Dmitri Shostakovich and Sergei Prokofiev. He played a crucial role in bringing the music of these major composers to the public. Atovmyan was a close friend of Dmitri Shostakovich and was often entrusted with arranging concert suites from Shostakovich's film, ballet, and theatre music. Atovmyan's arrangements often featured extensive alterations and newly composed material, setting them apart from Shostakovich's original compositions.
