Matthew Aucoin was born in Boston Massachusetts in 1990 and is also a pianist and writer in addition to a composer and conductor. He graduated from Harvard College in 2012 having studied with the poet Jorie Graham and composer Robert Beaser. Whilst at Harvard, Aucoin became the youngest ever assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera where he collaborated with, amongst others, Valery Gergiev and Thomas Ades. In 2013, Aucoin was appointed the Sir Georg Solti conducting apprentice for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and in 2014 made his debut in Chicago stepping in to replace Pierre Boulez at short notice. In 2016 Matthew Aucoin will be the artist in residence at the Los Angeles Opera, a post created especially and combine his work as composer and conductor. This position will culminate in 2019 with a world premiere of a newly commissioned opera.
