Miguel del Aguila

(b. 1957)
Miguel del Águila was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1957. He initially studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and then later at the Hochschule fur Music and Konservatorium in Vienna. Some of his piano works were performed in New York’s Carnegie Hall whilst he was studying in Vienna and a short time later is composition Hexen, was premiered with the Brookyn Philharmonic in New York. Del Águila returned to the US in 1992 and later became the musical director of the Ojai Camerata in Los Angeles from 1996 to 1999. After his works had found homes in cities such as London, Zurich, Budapest, Tokyo and Rome, Del Águila became resident composer Chautauqua Music Festival from 2001 – 2004 and in 2010 he was the recipient of two Latin Grammy nominations for his recording ‘Salón Buenos Aires’ and ‘Clocks’, his esteemed composition from the album. Del Águila’s music was performed by, amongst others the Cincinnati and Indianapolis Chamber Orchestras in 2016 and 2017 and in the same period has also given masterclasses as Composer in Residence at the Tailis Fesitval Academy and Vanderbilt University.
