Description
3 Octave Keyed Glockenspiel for Hire
Mozart wrote specifically for the keyed glockenspiel in the Magic Flute. This instrument originated before the standard orchestral glockenspiel as we know today and can be found generally with either a 2.5 or 3 octave range. The workings of our keyed glockenspiel are almost identical to that of a piano, therefore designed for a keyboard player rather than a percussionist, but rather than the soft hammers of the piano, this instrument has hammers with small metal heads. The sound of the keyed glockenspiel has been described as somewhat disappointing, as little power can be achieved. Modern orchestral glockenspiels have a far superior sound.
