Hand bells have been available for years and one of the oldest manufacturers in the world, the Whitechapel Bell Foundry, began in the 16th Century. Hand bells range in size from an inch or so to bells much larger. These days up to six octaves of hand bells are available and are distinctive with the handle and the internal hammer. However, hand bells are very fragile and are easily cracked if used in an incorrect manner.
