Shekere for Hire
This instrument has its origins in Africa where it can be used as a shaker, rattle and a drum. In the past the shekere was made of hollow gourds with a surrounding lattice of stones or beads to provide the unmistakable sound. The shekere is played in numerous ways shaking and twisting but also striking the bass of the bulb to achieve deep drum notes. Modern shekere's are constructed from fibreglass for strength and the beads surrounding the bulb are connected using strong and thin nylon cord.
