Single Tuned Cowbell for Hire
F3 - C7
Unlike Latin cowbells, tuned cowbells that are better known as almglocken, have specific pitches. In addition, their shape is totally different and its sound is significantly brighter and more tuneful than the more modern cowbells. The range of tuned cowbells is approximately 4 octaves, although the standard range is F3 to C7. Obviously, the low cowbells are extremely large requiring a range of beaters to bring out the fullest sound. Many composers have composed for tuned cowbells and some, like Mahler, use clappers attached to the inside of the cowbell to create the sound rather than, striking the bell directly. This is very effective, especially if the clappers are covered in thin cloth to deaden the sound and stop any metal to metal effect.
