Washboard for Hire
The washboard is a busy percussion instrument within 20th Century music. There are many types of teeth that gives the washboard its unique sound. Most have wooden or metal slats that provide the player with alternative sounds. Contemporary modern composers have experimented with other materials such as sharks teeth but this was doomed to failure due to the disintegration of the washboard. Stravinsky famously used washboards in his masterpiece The Rite of Spring, although in more modern settings, jingles and film music are a fan of the washboard.
