The swannee whistle is played by blowing through the mouthpiece and moving the slider up and down to change pitch, the same principle as a trombone. The Swanee whistle has for years been used in pantomimes as a sound effect for people falling over, however in recent years the instrument has become more experimental and has been used as a tuned instrument in its own right.
