The Kodo Drums shape varies dramatically as do the methods of hanging or standing. However, mainly they have wooden shells, thick heads that are nailed on to the shell. Many have convex wooden shells and can be manufactured to extreme sizes. The woods that are used for constructing the shell vary, but one wood, Zelkova (a type of pine) seems to be popular. Like African drums, the sheer number of different names, designs and variations are mind-boggling and this is just a brief and general description.
