Udu for Hire
Originating in West Africa, the Udu drum is a clay chamber that has either one or more holes, some possbly covered. The udu is used by the Igbo of Nigeria which, in the Igbo language, udu means vessel. Actually being a water jug with an additional hole, it was played by women for ceremonial uses. The instrument is played by the hands and produces a special and unique bass sound by quickly hitting the larger hole. Furthermore, the whole shell can be played by dextrous use of the fingers. Today it is widely used by percussionists in different music styles.
