Thunder Sheet for Hire
Many composers have written for thunder. One of the most famous pieces for this required effect is the Alpine Symphony by Richard Strauss. Modern thunder sheets are large sheets of tinplate, although other materials have been known to work as well, suspended on a frame that will allow the sheet to swing. The thunder sheet can either be played by the percussionist (s) holding one end and moving the sheet or some have even experimented by using very large but soft mallets and rolling slowly to produced a slow rumbling effect.
