Rather than an instrument itself, the comb can provide a completely new sound on many different instruments. Whether it is scraping across a tam tam or running quickly over a set of un-damped tubular bells, the comb can provide extreme colour. The variations of teeth on the comb are also a benefit. Whether the teeth are plastic and are very close together, or metal in an Afro style will give the percussionist a multitude of effects to play with.
